C.H. Spurgeon

Sinners, let me address you with words of life; Jesus wants nothing from you, nothing whatsoever, nothing done, nothing felt; he gives both work and feeling. Ragged, penniless, just as you are, lost, forsaken, desolate, with no good feelings, and no good hopes, still Jesus comes to you, and in these words of pity he addresses you, "Him that cometh unto me I will in no wise cast out."

Purity: A Virtuous Choice

Apparently, according to this article, at the MTV Music Video Awards, Russell Brand thought it would be somewhat cute to make fun of those persons that would rather keep their virginity for their future spouse, than to lose their purity by taking part in promiscuous sin.

I believe those who make the choice to flee youthful lusts, whether they wear a purity ring or not, should be commended as showing a desire to keep themselves pure. So, I am glad to see that others, such as Jordin Sparks also at the MTV Music Video Awards, voiced, in her own words, not everyone wishes to dwell in fornication.

I find it interesting that there are some, apparently even in the ‘professional’ field, which not only wish to discredit and shutdown abstinence classes, but also wish to talk down of those that have personally chosen to make virginity pledges. Almost seemingly claiming, ‘Ah, they want last.’

How has the human mind become so perverted that they have come to believe that ‘safe sex’ is better that virginity? Any virgin can lose their purity at anytime, but those in fornication can never regain their virgin purity. Does such make them jealous, and therefore lash out at those who were able to control themselves more so that they?

The fact is, if persons would hold dear their virginity until marriage, there would be no out-of-wedlock pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases. The problem is not, ‘does abstinence work,’ for it does. The problem is with boys and girls, men and women not staying true to purity, but giving themselves over to the lustful thoughts of their hearts.

And let it be noted, that those who have aforetime lost their virginity, this does not mean they cannot now live a life of purity till or in marriage. We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God, but there is forgiveness found in Jesus Christ. Don’t look to the darkness of your past, but to the brightness of your future!

Purity is a virtuous choice, one that must be decided before we find ourselves in a situation, and one that must be strengthened by the power of God working in and through us. Don’t let lust take your purity, save it for your future spouse; whereby, you may give unto them a treasure you have kept just for them.

You fail to note that the only use for virgins in ancient times was to act as sacrificial lambs in blood sacrifices by pagans, Aztecs and other tribes who want to pray for good harvests.

The same can be true for eating shellfish: It gives you some real nasty diseases, like hep B.

How about, say, stop breathing? The air contains pollutants, chemicals and an assortment of chemicals that can give you lung cancer.

Or even better. Stay out of the sun. Gives you skin cancer.

Sorry you have such a limited, dark picture of history. You are looking at the depravity of man, consider your ways less you walk down the same path and likewise perish.

You are catching on though, please do avoid those things which can harm you both physically and spiritually.

Limited, dark picture of history?

No mate, I do not have a "limited, dark picture" of history. I am just saying it as it is: Virginity has never had any inherent value. In fact, in religious countries, the idea of virginity is so crude that women who are deemed "unchasted" or non virgins were stoned to death. The idea of the superiority of virgins is so repulsive and archaic that in modern times it is hard to deem it a "virtuous choice", unless, of course, you need the sadistic pleasure to stone a few women.

As for "catching on", notice that the idea of not breathing and not going out into the sun are things that one will find it compelling to follow in any plausible sense of the word. If you are so afraid of the immense multitude of phenomena that can kill you, perhaps you should do us the favor and kill yourself instead.

‘Virginity has never had any inherent value.’

Virginity has great value, for it shows ones aspiration to keep themselves pure and a refusal to give into the lustful desires of the flesh by defiling themselves in the sin of fornication. It also stops the spreading of sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancies (ie. abortion), and the monies that go to support abandoned children (for there wouldn’t be unwanted children born out of wedlock). Society would be much cleaner and healthier without premarital sex and adultery, with people committing themselves first to staying virgins until marriage and then staying faithful and true to their spouses.

Indeed, the ‘unchaste’ harlots (not simply non virgins) used to be the ones looked upon as repulsive (as you put it), but since the lost world desires the sin of fornication over the purity of virginity and the sanctity of marriage, the ones whom kick against God and His Truth wish to twist that which is good into that which is evil. Why would one look upon virgins (those who wish to stay pure, for whatever reason) as ‘repulsive and archaic that in modern times’? Because such virtuousness of others pricks their own conscience of their ‘sadistic pleasure’ of fornication over what is good and acceptable.

You are way out of your depth here, Tim:

1. Unwanted Pregnancies/Abortions: If people are more informed about birth control, most abortions could have been avoided.

2. As for disease control, again, the same issue: With adequate knowledge of safe sex, most STDs can be avoided. Of course abstinence should be a part of the sex education message, but it should not BE THE ONLY MESSAGE as preached by stupid abstinence-only programs. Its not about folks being unregenerate (a term you seem quite prone to using) or slutty, but a case of need. Since society is democratic and not theocratic in general, people must be given the same means to meet their needs. Simple as that. & you can kill two birds in one stone too: Maximizing sexual fun and reducing STDs to the minimum.

3. Not having sex does not eliminate all STDs: AIDS, Gonorrhea, syphilis and Hepatitis can be spread by other modes other than sex. So avoiding sex does not provide full immunity from these diseases. Besides, the idea of not having sex to prevent diseases is dumb: Diseases can be caught by many other modes besides sex (which I mentioned earlier in my comment about skin cancer and Hep B).

3.Let me explain what I mean:

"The idea of the superiority of virgins is so repulsive and archaic that in modern times it is hard to deem it a "virtuous choice", unless, of course, you need the sadistic pleasure to stone a few women."

I do not mean virgins are repulsive: What I mean to say is that the idea of the superiority of virgins is repulsive, because it alludes to punishment of non virgins in ancient times, and the fact that Islam and the bible advocates stoning for non virgins is testament of the barbarity of such erroneous holy books.

Finally, the term "sadistic pleasure" you use to allude to sex is baffling, to say the least. Unless you are talking about a good healthy dose of BDSM,there is nothing sadistic about sexual pleasure.

Once again, you have proven to me that there is no inherent value in virginity, unless you are talking about the beauty of stoning non virgins to death.

John Bunyan

To be saved is to be preserved in the faith to the end. 'He that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.' (Mt. 24:13) Not that perseverance is an accident in Christianity, or a thing performed by human industry; they that are saved 'are kept by the power of God, through faith unto salvation.' (1 Pet. 1: 3-6) But perseverance is absolutely necessary to the complete saving of the soul…. He that goeth to sea with a purpose to arrive at Spain, cannot arrive there if he be drowned by the way; wherefore perseverance is absolutely necessary to the saving of the soul.
