C.H. Spurgeon

Sinners, let me address you with words of life; Jesus wants nothing from you, nothing whatsoever, nothing done, nothing felt; he gives both work and feeling. Ragged, penniless, just as you are, lost, forsaken, desolate, with no good feelings, and no good hopes, still Jesus comes to you, and in these words of pity he addresses you, "Him that cometh unto me I will in no wise cast out."

Rethinking Evolution

Is this to try and plug the holes in the theory?

I can’t help but wonder.

Again, your failure to understand Science is evident.

The purpose of this article is not to discredit Science or Evolution: It simply highlights the fact that there is still a lot we do not know about biological evolution.

Extinct animals aside, many of the animals that exist today still remain undiscovered. New species of frogs, fish, and even mammals are discovered by the thousands each year. Are we supposed to discredit and give up searching for animals simply on the basis that we don't have sufficient knowledge?

Science is not religion, Tim. Religion thrives on the supposition that it has every answer it needs, while Science concedes that not everything can be known, much less proved,so the quest for answers is never ending.

To me, Science is definitely a much more honorable endeavor, while religion thrives well as a money making enterprise, as well as an excellent tool to beguile and exploit from the ignorant masses.

"Religion thrives on the supposition that it has every answer it needs"

Isn't that the same thing you just said about science? Science has every answer it needs in order to be believed, but there are still things it cannot find nor explain, such as all existing species of animals.

"religion thrives well as a money making enterprise"

And science has made no attempt to profit?

"as well as an excellent tool to beguile and exploit from the ignorant masses"

And science has never been used to beguile and exploit the ignorant masses? Surely, you jest.

Sean:

No sane scientist on this planet will claim to know every answer to every question, particularly those regarding invisible deities.

As for money making enterprises, one does not have to look further away than the megachurches of USA.

As far as science beguiling the masses, it is nowhere as prolific as religion does.

"it is nowhere as prolific as religion does"

Oh, in that case I guess its alright then.

However, you attempted to dodge my point, which is that science has all the facts that it needs in order to be believed.

Here's what you should be asking yourself: how do we know how much we don't know?

You say that science knows everything that it NEEDS to know, but you cannot state that for a fact since you don't know what you don't know.

"You say that science knows everything that it NEEDS to know, but you cannot state that for a fact since you don't know what you don't know"

Point 1: I have never alleged that science knows everything it needs to know. Only religion lays claim to such a bigoted statement.

Point 2: The "Don't know what you don't know" argument is a bit vague. I don't even understand what you mean.

"I have never alleged that science knows everything it needs to know."

Then logically you have insufficient proof that atheism is better than religion (as if the two cannot coexist).

Its simple, you don't know what you don't know means that you have insufficient knowledge to even identify the things that don't know.

John Bunyan

To be saved is to be preserved in the faith to the end. 'He that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.' (Mt. 24:13) Not that perseverance is an accident in Christianity, or a thing performed by human industry; they that are saved 'are kept by the power of God, through faith unto salvation.' (1 Pet. 1: 3-6) But perseverance is absolutely necessary to the complete saving of the soul…. He that goeth to sea with a purpose to arrive at Spain, cannot arrive there if he be drowned by the way; wherefore perseverance is absolutely necessary to the saving of the soul.
